In order to avoid costly taxi fares, many people are willing to risk making a car insurance claim and drive home after drinking.
This is according to the results of new research from Direct Line, which discovered that 1.3 million motorists admit they would be willing to do this after a night out.
People aged between 18 and 34 were found to be those most likely to drink and drive, as eight per cent of this group said they would consider it.
In comparison, three per cent of 35 to 54-year-olds claimed they would drive home after drinking.
Head of Direct Line car insurance Maggie Game said: "It's worrying to see the number of people who would drink and drive because they feel saving a few pounds outweighs the risk to themselves and others."
The AA has recently advised that accidents and car insurance claims can be avoided if people take regular breaks when driving long distances.
