Britons looking to save money on their travel insurance have been advised that there are still plenty of affordable and enjoyable holiday destinations in the UK.

VisitBritain believes that the government and the British tourism industry should be doing more to promote and support this by investing in the business.

Furthermore, the current exchange rate is also likely to encourage more people to stay in the country when they want a break so it is the ideal opportunity for them to save some money.

A spokesperson for VisitBritain said that "Britons will be thinking again about domestic destinations and will say: I may not go to France this year because of the exchange rate, but I may find that this is an ideal opportunity for me to holiday at home".

According to a survey by the Association of British Travel Agents, 83 per cent of those who have been on a recent overseas holiday are planning to take another one in the next 12 months.
