The West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust has confirmed that it will soon need van insurance for a further 64 vehicles.

After being impressed with its current 60 Vauxhall Movanos, the ambulance service has opted to more than double its fleet.

It is expected that the new vans will be put into service covering an area that is home to some 5.3 million people over 5,000 square miles, with the vehicles expected to cover 250,000 miles in their first five years of service.

Regional head of fleet at the service Graham Cann explained the Movano was ideal for the NHS Trust's needs.

He said: "It has the right specification for the job, including ample power to get to incidents quickly and transfer patients to hospital.

"Our crews find it a driver-friendly vehicle, which is comfortable both for them and their patients."

London mayor Boris Johnson recently showed interest in becoming a van insurance customer after attending the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership exhibition in the capital city which showcased vans running on alternative fuels.
