Homeowners should think now about how they can avoid home insurance claims relating to burst pipes this winter, one company has warned.
Over the past two years alone, one in every 1,000 people has fallen victim to burst pipes, with claims reaching as high as £25,000, Axa revealed.
The average contents claim was £6,100, while the average cost of repairing damage to buildings stood at £19,200.
Christine Matthews, head of household claims at AXA Insurance, said: "For those with insurance there is the comfort that the financial burden will be covered, but insurance cannot compensate for the misery and disruption of having your home and contents destroyed by water."
She emphasised that these problems can be avoided by taking some simple precautions and carrying out a few minor maintenance tasks.
Advice includes keeping the heating on at least 13 degrees C and locating the stop cock in case it needs to be turned off in an emergency. |
