Bad weather impacts home insurance policies

Home insurance customers are not aware of the consequences of weather damage, it has been found.

According to a recent research carried out by Lloyds TSB weather damages caused to homes cost the UK £1 billion in the past 12 months. Moreover, one in eight homeowners had witnessed their homes being harmed by natural agents such as rain.

The Association of British Insurers has pointed out that weather damage is the worst and can impact the Home insurance policy provider as well as the policyholder.

Malcolm Tarling, media relations officer for the ABI, said: "It's relatively easy to reduce the likelihood of burglary happening, but weather is much more difficult to predict, and the consequences ultimately can be much more devastating and affect a greater number of people."

Another survey carried out by Zurich found that there was a general lack of awareness among homeowners. Of those who were polled, 44 per cent were found to be unaware of how weather damage impacted their home insurance policies. ADNFCR-1789-ID-800085424-ADNFCR
