Travel insurance is "very cheap" and therefore people should not take the risk of leaving home for a holiday without it, it has been suggested.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) claims that it only costs around £14 a week to be properly covered while on holiday in Europe and reminds people that European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC) cannot be relied upon as they only cover basic reciprocal health care.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at Biba, said that many people end up making Travel insurance claims, therefore it is a "false economy" not to be covered.
"There are many benefits to having Travel insurance and it is very cheap. Certainly seek out a Travel insurance policy if you are going on holiday," he advised.
According to American Express, one in four people plan to go on holiday without Travel insurance, meaning that around 14.5 million Brits could face spending thousands of pounds on medical fees.
