As the economic downturn continues and people are looking for ways in which to save money it has been claimed that many are seeing their car insurance policy as a solution.

According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba), customers are making fraudulent claims in a bid to cut costs.

This is a big concern for the organisation as people are going as far as staging accidents and faking injuries.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at Biba, explained that this is having a detrimental effect as consumers are likely to end up paying more.

"The less people claim, the less insurance companies are paying out, so the premiums won't go up if they're not paying out so much," he added.

Drivers making a car insurance claims following an accident were recently advised by Admiral to take photographs if the damage done to their vehicle and the area where the incident occurred.
