A new survey suggests that car drivers could lower their commuting costs by switching to two-wheeled transport.
The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCI) estimates that 5.5 million car commuters could reduce their car insurance and other motoring bills by opting to ride to work.
There are also benefits for employers, with workers less likely to be delayed by traffic congestion and late for work.
Nearly one-quarter of bikers who took part in the survey felt that the cost of riding to work is cheaper.
Sheila Rainger, MCI spokesperson said: "This research lifts the lid on one of biking's best-kept secrets two-wheeled commuters aren't just saving time, they are saving money too."
She added that even people without a bike licence should consider learning to ride a motorcycle because the potential savings will soon recuperate the cost of bike insurance and other initial expenditure.
The Post Office also recently claimed that switching to a motorcycle rather than a car could reduce costs for many motorists.
