A bike insurance provider is realising the growing buying power of women motorcycle riders.
Bikesure, the bike insurance division of Adrian Flux, is offering significant discounts to female riders to reflect the fact that they are less likely to be involved in accident.
"We've looked at the stats," said Bikesure's Robert Balls.
"There's no getting away from the fact that women make far fewer claims than men so it seems only fair to reflect that in the price of their policies."
Bikesure also claimed that female riders are more likely to invest in high-quality motorcycle equipment such as helmets, gloves and leathers - so could benefit from bike insurance policies that provide extra cover for such items.
It is estimated that up to 20 per cent of UK bikers are women and this number is growing as more females are attracted to the wide range of streamlined and lighter bikes available on the market.
Recent figures from the Motorcycle Industry Association revealed that around 100,000 British bikers opt to travel across the English Channel each year to holiday on two wheels in Europe.
