Bike tyres could be feeling the pressure

Bike insurance customers need to make sure their tyres are in top condition, especially if the vehicle has been in storage over the winter months.

TyreSafe emphasised that motorcycle tyres need a thorough inspection before being taken out for a ride, which for many may be the first one of the year.

"If a bike is not stored properly over the winter months then its tyres can become illegal," explains Stuart Jackson, chairman of the organisation.

"Rubber deterioration can lead to a drop in pressure and cracking amongst other things which can compromise safety."

The group suggested to anyone carrying out motorcycle tyre checks that they pay particular attention to the tread and sidewalls, with cracked tyres needing to be replaced by a professional.

TyreSafe has named April its tyre safety month, during which it will be offering practical advice on how to keep their vehicles in top condition.ADNFCR-1789-ID-800486655-ADNFCR
