Booze cruising Britons may be taking risks when it comes to their car insurance when going abroad, research has shown.
According to a survey conducted by esure, one in six people who are planning to cross the channel to stock up on alcohol for the festive season are making incorrect assumptions which could affect their car insurance.
Around 3.6 million drivers admitted that they do not know the speed limits on foreign roads while a third think the driving regulations in the UK are the same as other European countries.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, said: "When planning to take a car to Europe, it is also crucial for motorists to call their insurer and tell them that they want to extend their level of cover for driving abroad."
The Guardian recently reported that the cost of travel insurance could go up for those going on a cruise due to the risk of pirate attacks on the vessels.
