British homeowners 'would go green to save money'

People are more likely to install energy efficient features into their homes as the prices of electricity, gas and water all continue to increase, it has been claimed.

According to a poll by Norwich and Peterborough Building Society (N&P), 69 per cent of people said they were looking for cheaper methods of running their homes in a bid to save money.

A further 87 per cent said that if they were ever to build their 'dream home' they would incorporate green features such as solar panels and wind turbines.

Chris Holey, who is judging a new eco self-build competition run by N&P, said: "It is important that everyone does what they can to reduce their impact upon the environment and I am encouraged by the findings of this survey."

In related news, some factories have warned that they may have to close down over autumn and winter because they can no longer afford the high energy prices they will pay to stay open, according to the Guardian.
