Britons may be able to save on their home insurance if they jointly purchase a house with their parents or in-laws, according to Halifax.
A survey of more than 2,000 adults by Halifax has revealed that a quarter of people would consider doing this as they got older.
However, 37 per cent said they were unsure whether their current home contents insurance policy would cover all of their family's possessions if they were to live together.
Head of underwriting at Halifax home insurance David Rochester said people being unaware of their insurance policies "could be devastating for them if an item is lost or damaged as it is only then that they discover they are underinsured".
One in four also said they wanted to buy a larger home or make an extension on their current property, with 31 per cent of these saying they felt it made financial sense to do so.
Meanwhile, uSwitch has said that eight insurance providers have increased unsecured personal loan rates by up to nine per cent.
