A new survey has revealed that UK motorists are the safest in Europe, which could be good news for those looking to purchase car insurance.
Conducted by AXA, the Road Behaviour Survey, interviewed 800 drivers from Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
It found that 92 per cent of British motorists felt they were safe on the roads compared to a European average of 72 per cent.
Around 41 per cent of Brits also felt there was stricter law enforcement on UK roads and three out of four rated themselves as a good driver.
Tina Shortle, marketing director at swiftcover.com, said: "It seems that the drivers surveyed would welcome greater automated controls inside the car to ensure roads are even safer in the future."
Introducing these measures would make car insurance simpler and faster, she added.
In related news, RIAS recently warned motorists to take extra care when driving in foggy weather this winter.
