Around 98 per cent of Brits are making their homes more environmentally friendly, though this is to save money rather than concerns about going green, it has been found.
Legal and General has published research which shows that 26 per cent of respondents are now turning off the heating, which could be a result of increasing fuel costs.
Furthermore, 45 per cent of women admitted that although they pretended to be taking steps to help the environment, it is actually to help save cash. Only 37 per cent of men admitted to doing this.
Garry Skelton, marketing director at Legal & General's general insurance business said that "with the colder weather approaching, people are likely to resist turning on their heating to save money".
Having the right household insurance cover can also be vital over the winter months and homeowners are advised to keep their property well maintained to comply with the condition of many policies.
