New research by CreditExpert.co.uk has found that adults in the UK are less likely to haggle over loans than televisions.
The study showed that while people are happy to haggle over goods such as cars and televisions, they are less likely to negotiate on loans and financial products.
Almost 50 per cent of those surveyed said they would be prepared to ask a retailer for a discount while only 16 per cent would try to barter when it came to securing a loan.
Jim Hodgkins, managing director of CreditExpert.co.uk, said that the credit crunch is "having a significant effect on our haggling behaviour".
However, he admitted that many people do not "understand financial products in the same way they do consumer goods" and are not confident enough to try and push for a better deal.
In related news, the BBC has published a guide to high street haggling which suggested shopping at a quiet time of the day and printing out internet deals, among others.
