Brits looking to compare loans or find themselves cheap car insurance during the recession may be interested to hear the opinion of one industry expert.

Mark Bower, lifestyle sales director at lastminute.com, claimed that people should not be paying full price for anything while the current economy is so bad.

He states that according to a survey conducted by his firm, 70 per cent of respondents in the UK are still planning to spend as much on their leisure time this year as they have previously.

However, Mr Bower explained: "People are still going out but are not paying full price for anything - people are being a lot savvier on what they're purchasing."

According to a the results of a lastminute.com survey, Brits are more likely to be taking short breaks in 2009, with 31 per cent of people choosing city breaks over longer holidays.
