Brits jetting off to warmer climes may find that as well as paying for their travel insurance, they have to pay more for their flight tickets.
This is because, according to CyberSource, as online fraud increases, airlines may be forced to raise the cost of their tickets to try and offset losses.
Although the firm claims it is doubtful this will happen at moment, it is not something it rules out for the future.
Customers may also face boarding delays as they are subject to passenger screening processes, the firm continues.
A spokesperson for CyberSource explained that if fraud grows "it could conceivably impact the price of tickets, as airlines could adjust prices to offset their losses".
Research from CyberSource revealed that in 2008 airlines lost $1.4 billion (£944 million) to cyber fraudsters, which is around 0.9 per cent of all worldwide online global ticket sales.
