Brits are more likely to save money on their travel insurance and sacrifice short holidays abroad because of the economic downturn, it has been suggested.
VisitBritain claims that while people will continue to take short breaks in the UK, it is trips to more exotic locations that holidaymakers will chose to give up.
The current exchange rate may also have an affect on this decision as it is a key aspect to consider for many people, the company continues.
Speaking about how the credit crunch will affect short breaks, Elliot Frisby, press and PR manager for VisitBritain, said: "This is a challenging time as there is a widespread desire to save money but we do believe it is going to be small and regular purchases."
Research from greenbee.com found that for 34 per cent of Britons, their main concern is the potential collapse of their travel operator.
