Brits 'may save on travel insurance with a caravan'

Those looking to save money on their travel insurance may be turning to the world of caravanning, it has been suggested.

According to the National Caravan Council (NCC), 32,000 of the vehicles were sold in 2007, which is an increase of nine per cent from the year before.

There has also been an increase in the number of people booking touring caravan pitches in 2009 as many say it is now too expensive for them go abroad.

Louise Wood, director of communications for the NCC, said: "A lot of people say that where they might have travelled further afield in their caravans next year is going to be the year that they stay in the UK."

She also believes that the movement of the Euro means it is even more expensive for some people to go abroad.

According to a survey by the Association of British Travel Agents, 35 per cent of people said that the current economic situation will be having an effect on their holiday destinations this year.
