Brits urged to update home insurance for Easter DIY projects

Brits may wish to ensure that their home insurance policy is up to date as many are planning on doing some DIY instead of moving house in order to save money, research shows.

According to figures from Yorkshire Bank's quarterly Housebuyers Report, only five per cent of respondents are planning to move house this year.

Instead, people are opting to make improvements to their existing property with over 61 per cent claiming they plan to carry out the work themselves.

Gary Lumby, Yorkshire Bank's head of retail, said: "Easter is the start of the DIY season as people start to repair and renovate their homes for the summer."

He also cautioned: "Unfortunately, sometimes accidents do happen and that's why homeowners should ensure they have adequate insurance before starting any major renovations or DIY projects."

Research from Sainsbury's has discovered that an estimated 526,000 Brits have reduced their home contents cover in order to save money this year.
