Some Britons may be considering getting a loan to help them cover the cost of Christmas this year, however one thing they will not be scrimping on is a traditional dinner, a survey has revealed.
According to a poll conducted by Abbey, a turkey with all the trimmings will cost the average household ten per cent more than last year.
To cover this cost, nearly one in three people said they would cut back on present spending while nearly half would sacrifice their social life in the run up to Christmas.
Callum Gibson, head of credit cards at Abbey, said: "We all know it's going to be a tough Christmas, and while presents may not be as extravagant as previous years, it's great to see that Britons are determined not to let it spoil their Christmas lunch."
Research from Birmingham Midshires has recently revealed that 46 per cent of people have been making gift purchases before December in an attempt to help spread the cost.
