Flooding has become an issue many Brits are now concerned about, with some worried their home insurance will not cover them if anything happens to their property, it has emerged.

Research by Zurich found that 44 per cent of people do not know if their policy would cover them in the event of flooding and 40 per cent claimed they do not know where to go to find out information on the subject.

Since the summer floods in 2007 it has been an issue that more and more people are becoming concerned about.

Anna Fleming, property claims director at Zurich, said that the "increasingly unpredictable nature of the weather" means "there is an urgent need for all homes and businesses to prepare for this risk, regardless of the area they live in".

Last month the Fair Investment Company reported that one-third of Brits do not have home insurance even though 10 per cent of homes are in flood risk areas.
