People who may have taken out loans and are now concerned about the amount of debt they are in should not be embarrassed about seeking help.
This is the opinion of The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) which claims that asking for advice is the first step to solving the problem.
The organisation describes how its online debt counselling tool offers people the opportunity to email experts about their money worries meaning that they remain anonymous and do not have to worry about feeling embarrassed.
Joseph Surtees, policy and research officer at the CCCS, said that even talking to a family member of friend can be beneficial.
He added that "we would always recommend to people if they are experiencing debt problems, speak to somebody".
According to Credit Action, at the end of March total UK personal debt stood at £1,459 while the average household debt in the UK was £58,350.
