Young drivers looking to purchase car insurance have been given advice by one expert on how to find the best deal.
Malcolm Tarling, specialist in general insurance from the Association of British Insurers, reminds younger motorists that there is no point in buying an expensive sports car as they will be unable to afford the high insurance premiums.
He also urges motorists to think about shopping around for cover as companies take different things into account when offering policies.
Mr Tarling said: "Shop around, you will find that even for young drivers it is a competitive market. There are a range of policies. Some policies will recognise steps that you take, for example not driving at night."
Many insurers will also offer lower rates for drivers who have taken the additional Pass Plus driving test.
According to the Independent, young drivers often pay more than £1,500 a year for car insurance.
