Car insurance claims increase due to snowy weather

Icy winds and snowy weather which has hit most of the UK has caused more drivers than ever to make a claim on their car insurance policy.

The AA has revealed that by 10:00 yesterday morning, its Cardiff call centre had received 30 per cent more claims than usual from drivers who had encountered difficulties on the treacherous roads.

Motorists were reported to have hit lamp-posts, walls and trees as they slid out of control on the slippy roads.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said that the organisation usually has around 1,700 claims on a Monday morning, compared to the 3,000 received yesterday.

He added: "I would strongly urge drivers to think twice before setting out on their journey where there are severe weather conditions: it's just not worth risking losing your no-claim bonus."

Meanwhile, car insurance firm esure reported a similar story, experiencing a 100 per cent increase in customer calls by 11:00 yesterday morning.
