The Association of British Drivers (ABD) is calling on the government to do more to justify its spending of road tax and fuel duty in order to reduce costs for car insurance customers.
Paul Biggs, environment spokesperson for the ABD, explained that many drivers remain suspicious of how the revenue generated from motoring taxes is spent and believes that more could be done to reduce the costs that road users face.
"The whole government transport policy is aimed at attacking car use by making it more expensive," said Mr Biggs.
"They're basically trying to drive as many cars off the road as possible while at the same time get as much money out of them as possible."
A report published by the House of Commons Transport Committee recently criticised the government for not communicating changes to road users clearly and that increases in road tax are viewed as largely unfair as well as having little impact in improving the environment.
