New research has revealed that many drivers are neglecting to carry out basic checks on their vehicles and could be risking their car insurance cover.
A study from car care and oil company, Comma, discovered that over five million motorists never check their oil level despite the risk of a £1,413 repair bill if their car does run dry.
The survey questioned a total of 3,800 motorists and discovered that SEAT owners are the most likely to fail to check oil levels as often as required, closely followed by Jaguar and Volkswagen drivers. Reasons giving for neglecting including not knowing how to, forgetting and assuming it only needed to be done at service intervals.
However, Lexus drivers claim to be the most conscientious owners with two in five checking their cars' oil levels each week.
Last week, insurance provider Aviva warned drivers that having their car insurance details to hand following an accident could help to speed-up the claim process.
