Car insurance customers in Cambridgeshire are being advised to make sure they take extra precautions in protecting their cars.

Cambridge News reports that there has been a recent spate of car thefts in the region after criminals have committed burglaries in order to take vehicle keys.

Over the past ten days, police have seen a total of five vehicles stolen in the south Cambridgeshire region and are warning drivers to make sure they store their keys carefully - otherwise they could be forced to claim on their Car insurance policies.

Detective sergeant Daren Cooper said: "I would ask residents to ensure that when they lock up at night, they then conceal their vehicle's keys."

"A keyholder is a convenient place to keep car keys, but it is also a convenient place for burglars to find them."

Police also confirmed that they have arrested a number of boys in the area on suspicion of burglary.

Meanwhile, Car insurance customers are being warned about car matching scams, which could be costing consumers around £3 million a year, according to the Office of Fair Trading.
