Men struggling to find the women of their dreams might like to ditch their rusting old vehicles and take out some car insurance on a newer model.
That at least is the suggestion of a survey by Motors.co.uk, which recently found that women are three times as likely to knock back a potential date if their car is not up to scratch.
In all, 34 per cent of female respondents in the poll admitted they would not enter a relationship with someone whose car is old and damaged.
And it is not just women who place such value in the appearance of a car. Of the 1,660 drivers questioned - male and female - 19 per cent owned up to paying more attention to their vehicle than to their partner.
A cunning 23 per cent of car insurance customers also revealed that they have lied about their cars in order to impress would-be partners.
In other gender-related driving news, the AA recently found that 52 per cent of people in the UK believe fathers are better than mothers at giving driving lessons.
