Caravanning holidaymakers warned not to forget travel insurance

Holidaymakers thinking of getting away from it all in a caravan this summer have been warned that even if they stay in the UK, they still need to take out travel insurance.

According to esure, up to two million extra caravan trips may be taken by Brits this year as bookings at caravan parks are up by a fifth.

Therefore, the cheap travel insurance provider warns that it is essential to have the correct insurance cover in case of a problem, such as someone falling ill and having to cancel at the last minute.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, said: "Whether you need to cancel your caravan site booking or make a claim following a theft, having the appropriate insurance and taking the right precautions will make for a happier and more hassle-free caravanning holiday."

The Association of Independent Tour Operators recently claimed that Europe will have to lower some of its prices if it expects to attract British tourists amid the recession.
