As the popularity of high-adrenaline adventure sports is increasing, those choosing to participate in such dare-devil activities are being urged to ensure they check insurance details before booking.
In the opinion of insurance firm esure, such sports carry a high element of risk and people should therefore take out medical cover to make sure they are not left out of pocket should they injure themselves.
Asia Manzoor, a spokeswoman for esure travel, said: "Whether on a nursery slope or a black run accidents do happen and it's crucial to have medical cover to avoid footing a hefty bill."
She also suggested that holidaymakers check with their insurer before booking any sports activities as well as scanning the small print to make sure they are aware of any exclusions.
Research by esure found that nearly a fifth of respondents would not take out travel insurance to save money on their winter sports holiday this year.
