Cheshire: Don't let homes go up in smoke this bonfire night

With Bonfire Night just around the corner, homeowners are being encouraged to make sure they have home insurance as there is the potential for damage to be caused.

Cheshire Building Society says that accidents can happen because of fires, sparklers and fireworks.

Although policies will cover home and contents they may not automatically cover tress and plants in a garden or home emergency cover.

Karen Torson, product manager at Cheshire Building Society said: "Bonfire Night is a great opportunity to invite friends and family over but it's also a time of year when accidents can happen, so if you're thinking of having a bonfire, it's advisable to know in advance what your policy does and doesn't cover."

The company advises people to build bonfires away from any property or structures.

Last month, the Council of Mortgage Lenders revealed that the number of loans being granted to first-time buyers is at an all-time low in the UK.
