A new initiative is hoping to reduce the number of motorists driving on UK roads without valid car insurance.
HPI, the leading vehicle information organisation, believes that its new CrushWatch scheme will work with the Finance and Leasing Association and local police authorities in successfully seizing the vehicles of illegal drivers.
"CrushWatch uses the power of the HPI Check to provide a framework for checking vehicle ownership, status and agreeing settlement terms before repatriation. We specifically designed the service to meet the needs of police and finance companies," explained Alan Bishop, industry relations director for HPI.
According to HPI, last year the police seized around 170,000 vehicles that were not covered by the correct car insurance cover - however, it is estimated that around two million people across the UK could be driving on the UK roads without car insurance.
Meanwhile, motorists are being warned that the recent credit crunch is likely to increase traffic on UK roads this summer as more people opt to save money by holidaying closer to home rather than travelling overseas.
