Consumers keen to buy home insurance online

There has been a rise in the number of people willing to buy home insurance online, with 85 per cent of consumers saying they would make a purchase in this way.

Financial research company Defaqto found that people are happy to forego professional advice, which means they must understand the features of their chosen policy.

Figures reveal that accidental damage is offered as an optional extra on 79 per cent of policies, while legal expenses are an add-on for 67 per cent of home insurance products.

Mike Powell, Defaqto's insight analyst for general insurance, commented: "Our homes and the contents within them are our most valuable assets, and it is therefore important to have appropriate insurance in place to protect them."

He added that there are some considerable variations between policies in the level of cover they provide, so making a purchase based on price alone is unlikely to be the best option.ADNFCR-1789-ID-800763264-ADNFCR
