Brits may want to take extra care to ensure their contents insurance is up to date as Friday 13th once again looms on the horizon.

Research from Churchill has discovered that claims for accidental damage to mirrors and bathroom fittings increased by 20 per cent on Friday 13th February when compared to the previous two Fridays.

It seems as though the date really may be unlucky for some as accidental damage claims for cables and pipes increased a quarter and claims for food damaged by freezer breakdowns were up by 100 per cent.

Martin Scott, head of Churchill Home Insurance, said that "having accidental damage cover on your Home Insurance can go some way to minimising the stress and financial burden of having an accident in the home".

NFU Mutual recently revealed that one Home Insurance holder recently had a stuffed polar bear restored to its former glory after it was destroyed by a fire in his house.
