The AA has warned young drivers not to take the lead of one character from TV soap Coronation Street and attempt to get away with not paying car insurance.
In the programme, a character named Tara has suggested that the car insurance policy for her boyfriend's daughter should be put in her name as the policy would be cheaper.
However, AA insurance director Simon Douglas has warned that this is a risky move for real-life motorists as "what Tara unwittingly suggested is a classic case of fronting".
"Evidence of fronting would see her shunned by insurers, exposing her to potentially tens of thousands in costs for damage to her own car and any third-party," Mr Douglas explained.
Therefore, he states that drivers who think they are saving themselves money with such a scam could end up paying far more.
The AA recently welcomed new laws introduced by the government to tackle the number of drivers on the road without car insurance.
