The rising cost of living is leading to people neglecting their healthy lifestyle, research from PruHealth has indicated.
A sizeable 60 per cent of those surveyed claimed they cannot afford the added expenses associated with healthy dieting and exercise.
Nutritionally balanced diets were not being followed by 22 per cent of participants due to the rising cost of living while 19 per cent are filling their shopping trolleys with cheaper, frozen convenience items, PruHealth claimed.
Katie Roswell, marketing director of PruHealth, said the rising cost of food means people's buying habits are "clearly beginning to change".
"The worry is that the progression from credit to health crunch may worsen as people reduce outgoings by buying less fruit and vegetables and continue to believe that all exercise is expensive" she furthered.
At least some of the strain could be alleviated by shopping around for car insurance quotes. According to the AA, taking time to look around for the best policy could reduce car insurance premiums by around 33 per cent, fool.co.uk reported.
Ms Roswell also advised of cheaper ways of exercising, such as using the local swimming pool or walking more, which could help cut the cost of petrol as well.
