Don't let home insurance lapse, warns AA

As well as seeking their best home insurance deals, people should also take care to ensure their policies do not run out.

That is the advice of the AA, which warns that many homeowners could be putting their property at risk by not renewing contents or home insurance policies.

"Recent suggestions that the recession has led up to one-fifth of householders to cancel or not renew their cover is worrying, especially at a time when claims for both burglary and weather damage are increasing," said Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance.

The comments came as the insurer released details of separate research that showed 41 per cent of people would look to save money by buying their buildings and content insurances from different providers.

In other home insurance news, the National Home Improvement Council warned people not to cause undue damage at the home by attempting difficult DIY tasks themselves.
