An expert has predicted that the recession in the UK could continue until 2010.

Mark Parker, executive chairman Talkbiznow.com, believes that the current economic situation will continue for the next one or two years before it starts to improve.

He also thinks that it could take even longer before the economy is in the same position as it was before the recession, but eventually it will improve and make progress.

Mr Parker said that "this is not over and done with, I think we will see ourselves almost at the bottom of the trough as we go through 2009".

He also thinks that the actions which are being taken by the government and the Bank of England are helping the situation.

According to the Office for National Statistics, Gross Domestic Product contracted by 0.6 per cent in the third quarter of 2008.
