Extending home insurance is a 'good idea'

Britons should extend their home insurance policies before travelling abroad, it has been suggested.

Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the AA, said that holidaymakers – in particular – could benefit from extending their cover, in order to ensure that belongings are covered anywhere in the world.

"If you do lose your camera while you're out there, or your cases or you have an accident when you're driving down to the south of Spain and all your stuff is damaged, then you can claim on your UK home insurance policy," he explained.

Mr Crowder noted that extending home insurance cover will also offer baggage protection and may help to reduce the cost of travel insurance.

In addition to holidaymakers, Mr Crowder is also urging Britons who own a second home to ensure they are adequately protected.

A recent study by Zurich Private Clients revealed that ten per cent of holiday home owners do not have contents insurance.
