Garden sheds must be kept secure

People need to make sure their garden sheds are not open to thieves, as outdoor items are particularly vulnerable at this time of year.

Barclays emphasised that the value of items such as lawnmowers and power tools can soon mount up - and they may not be covered by home insurance.

For example, the cost of replacing a petrol rotary mower is estimated at £350 by the firm, which means there is a high risk of it being stolen.

Bicycles for a family of four are valued at £500 and also placed on Barclays' high risk list.

In total, the bank believes the average household has £1,750 worth of items outside their property that are vulnerable to theft.

Shane Leivers, Barclays head of home, motor and travel insurance, said: "Many of them don't realise that replacing the contents of their garden shed can cost as much as replacing electrical items in home, such as computers, iPhone and televisions."ADNFCR-1789-ID-800500617-ADNFCR
