Half-term holidaymakers need to make sure they have purchased their travel insurance ahead of any overseas getaways, Defaqto has emphasised.

The group said that it is essential to make sure that a policy covers everything a person needs, as they can vary quite a lot between providers.

Figures show that 81 per cent of policies provide cover of £1,000 or more for possessions taken on holiday, while 11 per cent will only protect a single item worth £350 or more.

Mike Powell, Defaqto's insight analyst for general insurance, commented: "Everyone's holiday plans are different so it is essential that consumers match the features and benefits they need with those provided by the travel cover they choose."

It was recently revealed by the group that there are significant variations in the level of winter sports cover offered by insurance providers, with 64 per cent providing £500 of cover or less for equipment.ADNFCR-1789-ID-800408741-ADNFCR
