Home insurance customers may be looking to save themselves some money as well as the environment by going green, it has been suggested.
According to Helen Steed, microgeneration development manager at npower, using renewable energy can have a positive impact on energy bills.
She explains that solar panels which generate hot water can save on a household's annual hot water bill, while solar photovoltaic panels that generate electricity can cut up to 60 per cent off an electricity bill.
However, Ms Steed explained that raising awareness about the financial incentives the government offers for renewable energies in the home can be a problem.
She said: "These grants that the government offer have been around for some years now but awareness is low."
Research by Tickbox.net and Opinion Matters for npower has discovered that 76 per cent of people think that renewable energy generation could add value to their home, due to energy bill savings.
