Halifax: Some Brits feel unsafe in their homes

A survey has revealed that Brits feel reassured knowing that they have security locks on all their windows and doors.

This is also something which could help to avoid making claims on a home insurance policy.

Research conducted by Halifax, entitled the Peace of Mind Index, revealed that 43 per cent of people sometimes do not feel safe in their own home.

Noisy streets were a worry for 29 per cent of respondents, while 27 per cent and 18 per cent worried about unexpected visitors to the door and being alone at night respectively.

Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax home insurance, also revealed that "women living alone have a higher peace of mind score than those living with parents, in shared accommodation or as a single parent".

Brits may want to take extra care to ensure their home insurance policy is up-to-date as Virgin Money has claimed that burglaries are on the increase.
