People are being advised by Lonely Planet that they could save money this Christmas by doing their present shopping abroad.
If they shop around for travel insurance and take the time to find cheaper flights and hotels, they could pick up plenty of bargains while having the experience of visiting somewhere such as New York.
Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, spoke about the benefits of going to America, saying: "If you go there, even with the falling pound and the strength of the dollar, lots of things appear cheaper anyway. That can be clothing, designer wear, all sorts of things."
The exchange rate against the American dollar, as of November 24th, was £1 to $1.48679.
Anyone who is planning to take a trip abroad this winter has been advised by the Association of British Insurers to make sure they have adequate travel insurance for their holiday.
