Home insurance 'can cover DIY disasters'

Brits planning to indulge in a little DIY over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend have been advised on what will be covered by their home insurance policy should anything go wrong.

According to esure, if a homeowner accidentally drills through a water pipe while adding some extra shelves or decorative tiles to their bathroom, this will be covered by accidental damage insurance.

Similarly, if a living room or bedroom is getting a lick of paint then any spillages on to the carpet will be covered, as the cost of the replacement plus any fitting changes also comes under accidental damage.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure home insurance, said: "It can be easy to bite off more than we can chew when it comes to DIY, so remember to do your homework and make sure you're familiar with the basics before getting your hands dirty."

Those living in rural areas have recently been warned by NFU Mutual that they may be at an increased risk of burglary.
