Home insurance cover must meet individual needs

People need to make sure they take out home insurance that is proportionate to their requirements, an industry expert has emphasised.

It is estimated that 75 per cent of properties in the UK are not covered by home insurance, noted Graeme Trudgill, head of corporate affairs at the British Insurance Brokers' Association.

He continued: "The most important thing is to buy the basic cover and then a standard cover which is for fire, theft, storm damage or a flood."

Mr Trudgill highlighted that home insurance providers should go through the available options with their customers when it comes to taking out a policy.

Aviva recently advised festival-goers to check their home insurance policies to see whether they will cover items taken outside the property, as such events often leave people's valuables vulnerable to theft.

It estimated that 46 per cent of people will attend a festival at some point in their lives.ADNFCR-1789-ID-800570423-ADNFCR
