Home insurance 'good idea ahead of bank holidays'

Taking out a home insurance policy could prove to be a good idea this weekend as DIY mishaps may be on the horizon for many Brits.

Research conducted by the AA shows that 38 per cent of home improvement enthusiasts will be beavering away on their properties this weekend.

However, one in ten projects will go wrong costing an average of £100 to resolve.

Accidental damage is the largest single category of home insurance claims with "escape of water" being one of the worst.

Simon Douglas from AA Insurance said: "Budding DIY-ers should check their cover before they get that tool box out. If necessary, accidental damage can be added to your policy."

Budding cooks were recently urged by Sainsbury's to ensure their home insurance policy is up to date as every year nine out of ten homeowners admit to having a kitchen-related accident costing an average of £100.
