Home insurance providers are far less likely to reward their customers with no-claims discounts, it has been discovered.
An investigation commissioned by Sainsbury's Home insurance found that nearly all car insurance policies offer a discount whereas only one in four home cover policies have a similar offer.
Furthermore, many customers are missing out on savings as eight per cent of home policy providers remove more than one year of no-claims discount if customers have to make a claim.
Neil Laird, Home insurance manager for Sainsbury's, said he doesn't see "any reason why insurers should offer no-claims discounts on their motor insurance policies but not on their Home insurance".
He also added that it is "alarming that so many providers are not being upfront and transparent about their no claims provision".
To avoid making a claim on their Home insurance, people may want to take heed of advice from esure urging owners to keep their Christmas presents out of sight.
